Farley Mowat

Furby House Books is an independent bookstore in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada where Farley Mowat lived for many years, when he and Claire were not in Cape Breton.

The bookstore was established in 1989, and named in honour of William Furby who settled in Port Hope in 1826. In 1831, he purchased the printing press of John Vail who had founded the Port Hope Telegraph a few months previously. Mr. Furby continued the publication of this, the first newspaper in Port Hope.

In partnership with the Mowat family, Furby House Books is selling Farley’s collection of first editions of his own titles, an interesting collection that spans his writing career.
